Free Tracing Books for Toddlers and Preschoolers
These tracing worksheets for 3 year olds (and for keen two-year-olds) are all about moving a crayon or pencil along a line from start to finish. Every book is a free printable PDF, with big, clear dotted or dashed lines and no letters, so your child can simply enjoy the movement.
Tracing is a calm, low-pressure activity for ages 2–4. It needs nothing more than a crayon and a few quiet minutes. Start with large, simple lines, sit beside your child and say the shape of the movement out loud: up and down, side to side, wiggle like a snake.
The books:
- My Little Hut: 10 pages, each with one house or hut to trace, then colour. A gentle first book.
- Pencil Fun: 16 pages of line tracing, from standing and sleeping lines to zig-zags, loops and a spiral. Every line runs from a green dot to a star.
- Pencil Practice: 11 busier pages of waves, scallops, zig-zags, loops and simple shapes, with little boats, bugs and fish.
All three show "Age 2–4" on the cover, with Name and Date lines on each page and a "Super Star Learner!" certificate at the end. Print the A4 PDF (or US Letter) at 100% scale; black and white works well.
A simple order: My Little Hut, then Pencil Fun, then Pencil Practice. One or two pages a day is plenty. Praise the trying, not the neatness, and stop while it is still fun.

Questions parents ask
Which tracing book is easiest?
My Little Hut, because each page is one big picture. Pencil Fun comes next, and Pencil Practice has the densest rows.
Do these books include letter tracing?
No. They have lines, patterns and simple shapes only. For letters, see our alphabet books.
Pencil or crayon?
For two-year-olds a thick crayon is easier. Older children can try a pencil.
