These hiragana tracing worksheets put the 46 basic hiragana, from あ to ん, in one free PDF: 46 activity pages, one kana per page. Your child traces a big dashed kana, looks at a picture with a word in hiragana, then traces the kana in rows and writes it in boxes.
What's inside: the kana follow the あいうえお (aiueo) chart order that Japanese preschool charts use: あいうえお, かきくけこ and so on to わ, を and ん. Picture words include あひる (duck), うさぎ (rabbit), すいか (watermelon), つき (moon), みかん (mandarin) and らいおん (lion), all written in hiragana. る and ん are shown at the end of a word (かえる, かばん), and を in the phrase ほんを よむ, each with a short note in Japanese. Headers and the instruction line are in English. The book ends with a certificate.
Age: the cover says Age 2–4.
How to print: choose the A4 PDF (or US Letter in the US and Canada), print at 100% scale ("actual size"), in colour or black and white.
Tips for parents:
- Say the kana and its word together: "あ, あひる".
- One row of the chart (five kana) over a week is a gentle pace. Praise the trying, not neatness.

Which hiragana are in this book?
The 46 basic hiragana, あ to ん, one per page. The voiced forms with dakuten (が, ぱ and so on), small kana and the old kana ゐ and ゑ are not included.
Does it include katakana or kanji?
No. Every letter and every picture word in this book is hiragana.
Is it suitable if we don't speak Japanese at home?
The page instructions are in English, so you can guide your child. The words are in Japanese, so a Japanese-speaking relative can help with saying them aloud.
